Arthritis

Our Arthritis program concentrates on early detection, diagnosis, prevention, symptom reduction, and functional restoration of tissues that have been affected by arthritis.

Conditions Treated

Arthritis is a disorder of one or more joints of the body, characterized by inflammation and destruction of cartilage that can cause pain, redness, swelling, deformation, stiffness, weakness, locking and dysfunction. Arthritic conditions range from mild to debilitating, clinically affecting one or multiple joints of the body. It can develop as a result of autoimmune disorder, trauma, repetitive stress and altered physiology.

It is imperative to identify a correct diagnosis and develop a proper therapeutic plan to prevent irreparable destruction of joints and other tissues, as well as alleviate associated clinical symptoms.

Common arthritic conditions are:
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Psoriatic Arthritis
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Gout
  • Reiter’s Syndrome

Arthritic tissues are also susceptible to injuries from work, sports and other activities.

Our Approach

Our goal at Bloor Yonge Chiropractic is to identify risk factors and establish a correct diagnosis through detailed history, and physical and neurological examinations. Depending on the diagnosis we may recommend additional tests or refer the patient to a specialist. Once we have determined that it is safe to treat the condition, our team of healthcare professionals will design a treatment plan.
We use a safe, effective multidisciplinary approach to reduce pain, stiffness and swelling, as well as restore joint mobility and biomechanics, speed up healing processes and minimize developed deformities through a combination of therapeutic techniques:
  • Joint mobilization and manipulation
  • Traction and decompression
  • Continuous passive motion and Joint end-range loading
  • Mulligan mobilizations
  • Shockwave therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Exercise protocols
  • Nutrition and Naturopathic supplementation

Our Process

Initial Assessment

The initial assessment will be performed by our Clinic Director Dr. Igor Sapozhnikov, D.C. to establish correct diagnosis, determine the cause of dysfunction and understand the full clinical picture. The assessment includes history, orthopedic, neurological and biomechanical evaluations. Additional laboratory testing, X-rays or referral to a specialist may be required.

Program Plan

Based on the assessment results, Dr. Sapozhnikov will recommend an individualized program plan that may include chiropractic, exercise program, acupuncture, nutrition, postural correction, decompression, laser, shockwave and/or other modes of therapy that will help reduce inflammation, stiffness, tension and pain, as well as restore joint and tissue mobility.
