Pregnancy and Postpartum

Our Pregnancy and Postpartum treatment programs are beneficial for women who are pregnant or have already given birth. Pregnancy or postpartum symptoms can range from mild discomfort to serious medical conditions. Our program is aimed at relieving these symptoms.

Conditions Treated

The birth of a new baby is an exciting time, but there is no doubt that pregnancy and postpartum come with their fair share of challenges. From back pain to anxiety, many women experience a wide range of discomfort over the course of 9 months and after the delivery. Neck, back and pelvis pain, anxiety and fatigue are common symptoms associated with pregnancy and postpartum.

Immediately after giving birth, the body goes through another set of dramatic changes. The mother may feel abdominal pain from her emergency C-section or encounter hormonal deficiencies as a result of breastfeeding.

Our Approach

Our healthcare practitioners utilize a variety of treatment techniques to relieve pregnancy and postpartum associated symptoms. The individualized treatment plans may include a combination of the following services:
  • Chiropractic/Osteopathic care

Using manipulation to properly align spine and pelvis to deal with pregnancy related physiological and physical changes, making pregnancy and delivery more comfortable

  • Physical Therapy

Core stability and pelvic floor training to treat back and pelvic pain during pregnancy and speed up recovery after natural delivery or C-section

  • Assistive Devices

Essential tools to provide comfort during activities such as sitting, driving, sleeping and breastfeeding.

We offer this program in collaboration with Toronto Naturopathic Clinic specialists who may provide the following services, if prescribed by the individualized program plan:
  • Naturopathy

Relieving pregnancy symptoms using natural solutions such as botanical supplements and homeopathic medicines.

  • Nutrition Counselling

Promoting a healthy diet for the mother and the baby by increasing the diversity and amount of foods consumed

  • Postpartum Evaluation

Evaluation of Hormonal and Nutritional deficiencies to find an appropriate plan to correct problems and achieve postpartum balance.

Our Process

Initial Assessment

Patients will undergo an initial assessment by our Clinic Director Dr. Igor Sapozhnikov, D.C. They will have an opportunity to discuss their symptoms and help him assess how they impact their physical state. Patients will also disclose any other health issues or concerns.

Program Plan

Based on the assessment results, Dr. Sapozhnikov will recommend an individualized program plan that may include chiropractic care, osteopathy, physical therapy, nutritional counselling, massage therapy, and/or other modes of therapy that will reduce symptoms.
